Centurion Gate Motor Error Codes

What your Centurion gate motor's LED error codes and fault indicators mean, and what to do about each one.

    Which Motor Are You Troubleshooting?

Error code systems vary between Centurion models. These codes apply primarily to the D5 Evo, D5 Smart, and D10 Smart series. Older models (D3, DTS) have different fault indicators. Check your motor's model number on the label before proceeding.

Centurion D5 Evo / D5 Smart LED Flash Error Codes

The Centurion D5 series communicates faults through LED flash patterns on the control board. Count the number of flashes in a sequence, then pause, to identify the error code:

    LED FlashesFault DescriptionLikely Fix
1 flashMotor overcurrent / gate obstructionCheck for physical obstruction. Test safety beams. May indicate motor gear wear or gate misalignment.
2 flashesBattery low / battery faultCharge battery or replace if over 2–3 years old. Check battery connection terminals.
3 flashesSafety beam obstruction or misalignmentClear any obstruction in the beam path. Realign TX and RX beams. Clean beam lenses.
4 flashesGate close limit not reachedAdjust close limit switch. Check for obstruction preventing gate reaching full close.
5 flashesGate open limit not reachedAdjust open limit switch. Check for obstruction preventing gate reaching full open.
6 flashesMotor temperature highAllow motor to cool. May indicate motor running too hard, check gate weight vs. motor rating.
7 flashesControl board fault / internal errorPower cycle the motor. If fault persists, the PCB may need replacement. Call a technician.

Common Centurion Fault Symptoms & Solutions

Gate opens but won't close (or vice versa)

Likely cause: Limit switch misalignment, safety beam obstruction, or logic board fault.

What to check: Test safety beams (wave hand in front, gate should stop and reverse). Check if limit switches are correctly set for both open and close positions. If beams are clear and limits are correct, a board fault is likely.

Gate moves slowly (much slower than normal)

Likely cause: Weak battery (voltage drop under load), dirty/dry rack, or failing motor.

What to check: Test battery voltage under load, a weak battery sags significantly when the motor draws current. Clean and re-lubricate the gear rack with dry lubricant. If both are fine, the motor may be failing.

Gate reverses immediately after starting to move

Likely cause: Safety beam obstruction, over-current protection triggering, or stiff gate.

What to check: Check safety beams for obstruction or dirty lenses. Manually push the gate to test if it moves freely without the motor, a stiff gate triggers the motor's overload protection.

Motor hums but gate doesn't move

Likely cause: Sheared nylon gear, seized motor bearing, or gate physically obstructed.

What to check: Disengage manual release and test if gate slides freely. If gate is free but motor hums without turning, the nylon drive gear is likely sheared, a common wear item. Call for repair.

    Remote range has decreased significantly

Likely cause: Remote battery low, remote circuit board damaged, or antenna connection fault on motor.

What to check: Replace remote battery (CR2032) first. If problem persists, check motor's external antenna wire is connected and undamaged. Damaged motor antennas can dramatically reduce range.

    Frequently Asked Questions

My Centurion D5 Evo is showing 3 flashes, what does this mean?

Three flashes on the Centurion D5 Evo indicates a safety beam fault, either an obstruction in the beam path, dirty beam lenses, or beam misalignment. Clear any leaves, debris, or objects between the beam pair. Wipe the lenses with a clean cloth. If the beams are clear and clean but the fault persists, a technician will check beam alignment and wiring.

My Centurion motor is showing 2 flashes, is the battery dead?

Two flashes indicates a low or faulty battery. The battery voltage has dropped below the motor's minimum threshold. First, ensure the motor has been on mains power for several hours to charge the battery. If the fault persists after charging, the battery capacity has deteriorated and needs replacement. Most gate motor batteries last 2–4 years before needing replacement.

Is it safe to continue using a gate motor that is showing an error code?

It depends on the error. A 2-flash battery warning can be safely used in the short term (the gate will still operate on mains power) while you arrange a battery replacement. However, a 3-flash beam fault means your gate's safety reversal system isn't working, the gate may not stop if something is in its path. We recommend not using the gate on motor-operated mode until the beam fault is resolved.
