Gate motor servicing is often overlooked until the motor fails — at which point a simple service has become an expensive repair. A regular service schedule significantly extends motor lifespan and prevents unexpected lockouts.
Recommended Service Schedule
Every 3–6 months (DIY): Lubricate the gear rack with a dry PTFE or lithium grease spray. Check and clean the bottom guide wheel. Test the safety beams and remote range. Visually inspect the motor cover for cracks or water stains.
Annually (professional service by JD Gates): Full electrical test — battery voltage load test, backup cycle count, remote receiver sensitivity, safety beam alignment and sensitivity. Mechanical check — pinion gear wear, rack condition, all mounting bolts, motor base integrity. Programming check — limit switch positions, obstacle sensitivity, anti-hijack settings.
