Each load shedding event fully discharges the battery. Standard SLA batteries are not designed for repeated deep-discharge cycles and degrade within 1 to 2 years in high load-shedding areas.
Even without load shedding, SLA gate motor batteries have a lifespan of 2 to 4 years. After this the battery can no longer hold enough charge to operate the gate during a power outage.
Fitting a battery with the wrong voltage or capacity causes the motor to underperform or not work at all. The Gemini garage motor slim battery and the Centurion RDO battery both require specific replacements.
